'Untitled Hybrid' (2008)

A hybrid sculpture incorporating found empty thread spools as the beads on an abacus. I was interested in mediating the relationship between things that are precise (such as a calculating machine) and things that are handcrafted (as evidenced by the bare spools). One of the first pieces of a series that investigated the symbolic "spool" as a measurement and storage object.
