'Breathing Cycles' (1999)
glass tank, cotton, wire, pulley, water
A handspun and handknitted measured fiber piece was immersed in water. Ideally when the viewer pulled the lever to unravel the piece, the loosened yarn went through a light sensor box that detected its variations of widths. A thick piece was supposed to activate a switch that produced an audible "inhale" sound and a thin piece was supposed to activate a switch that created bubbles (an "exhale) within the tank. Unfinished, but this piece was the direct inspiration for Spool Series: 'Objectification of Breath'
